Tranquility and Light

In 2012, David Austin introduced a new English Musk rose to the world whose name was "100% inspired by the rose itself". It didn't take local growers and flower market vendors long to pick it up, and we now have it saved for us weekly at the market, by one of our favorite vendors. Besides having a beautiful face, form, and fragrance, Tranquility has the amazing quality of endurance.

Here is Tranquility waiting in a bucket on Saturday morning.

And now a little note about light. As any florist will know, wedding day does not often provide opportunities for taking photos before the flowers leave the shop. But we took a moment, and placed the bride's bouquet near the front of the store where natural light streams in through the large front window. The first photo is where the window's light plays on the front and the second where the light comes from behind.

Tranquility was joined by ranunculus and dahlias from Half Moon Bay, and clematis from Chalk Hill in Healdsburg – all wrapped up in hand-dyed silk ribbon.

What is it about the color peach?

This perfect blend of pink and yellow takes our breath away, melts our hearts, and inspires flower inventors around the globe to new heights. It's amazing to think that the color peach barely existed in the flower world 100 years ago.

If you know roses, you most certainly know of David Austin. His hybridization work in northern England in the later half of the 20th century through today, has brought more than 24 varieties of peachy hued roses into creation. Juliet, his rose developed for the florist trade, is one of his most sought after roses in current times...loved for it's iridescent coloration and incredible stamina – five hours out of water – no problem.

Last weekend, Crocus, the rose, made an appearance in Easter baskets at Florali, along with matching ranunculus and beautiful peach picote Japanese maple.
